Urgent "on-the-day" arrangements

We have trialled a "triage" system first thing in a morning for "on-the-day" appointments, which has worked very well for patients and the surgery. Therefore, we have now implemented this system every week day.  This allows patients to speak to a GP first, before attending surgery, and allows the patient and GP to decide the best option to deal with their medical problem that day. 

Can we remind patients that the late afternoon urgent arrangements are not a "5pm drop in clinic" and are only bookable via reception for patients who need to be seen "on the day" and consider that their problem cannot wait until the next routine appointment.  These arrangements are only used when all of the other routine appointments have been filled.  The receptionist will inform patients that there may be a wait as the GPs are seeing patients at the end of the day's regular surgeries. Patients may also be asked to attend the "choice+" clinics at Moreton-in-marsh or Bourton-on-the-water for urgent medical issues which cannot wait until the next day.   Many thanks.

New services:



Appointment demand

We are currently experiencing an extremely high level of demand over the winter period for GP appointments and home visits.  We have booked locum GP surgeries (with GP locums we use regularly and who know the surgery well) to try and help with demand.  Please only request a home visit if you need medical treatment and are housebound. Routine appointments with GP's can be booked up to 8 weeks in advance if your problem is not urgent.

Your call will be answered by the NHS 111 medical answering service. They will contact the most appropriate service for your symptoms.

Test Results
In order to avoid blocking the line at busy times, we would ask you to ring for test results after 2pm weekdays on 841894. The doctor will have left a message for the receptionists to access on your notes.

Home Visits
If a visit is required, please try and phone early in the day. The doctor may telephone before visiting. Home visits are available for those patients who are housebound and in need of medical treatment.

FLU VACCINATIONS 2018 Due to a change in the vaccine programme nationally, the company supplying the vaccines is sending deliveries to all surgeries in stages between October and December.  Therefore, we are inviting patients in stages to different dates for flu clinics this year rather than one main clinic.

The surgery is not responsible for patients' belongings whilst on the premises. Please ensure you keep items safe whilst visiting the surgery.


Fraud alert:

We have received the following information from one of the Gloucestershire GP practices. Please note that GP's would never ask patients for bank details.

"We have had two patients call the surgery over the last two days as they had received calls from someone saying they were a doctor at our surgery saying he wanted to speak about their medical condition but needed their bank details. One patient unfortunately gave out their bank details and we advised that he contact his bank asap to let them know. They have both also been advised to call the police."

Did not attends

We now have a DNA champion in the practice, Steph Davies, who is contacting patients to enquire reasons for patients who do not turn up and do not cancel.  We would be most grateful if our patients could telephone reception or cancel on-line if they are not able to attend a booked appointment.  Thank you. 

Named accountable GP for all patients

All of our patients have been allocated a named, accountable GP and Dr Bointon's patients have been transferred to a new accountable GP.  Patients wishing to find out their named GP can contact the practice for this information.  Patients can still book in with any of the GP's available at the practice. 

Friends and Family Survey

We would like to respond to a couple of comments from our recent patient surveys:

Dispensing patients - we are unable, due to current rules, to dispense to patients living in the town.  As there is a chemist based in the town, NHS dispensing rules mean that we can only dispense to patients living in the approved villages in our practice catchment area.

Music - we play music in the waiting room to assist with patient confidentiality along with providing a relaxing environment for patients whilst they are waiting.  We understand that patients have differing tastes in music and do try to change the radio station throughout the week to play a variety of choices.

Road Safety Advice - North Cotswolds

We have received a few reports recently of incidents involving joggers, cyclists and walkers being knocked by passing cars. This seems to be occurring on the darker country roads where there is little or no street lighting, although with the winter sun low in the sky this can happen at any time of the day or night.


Could we please ask that if you are on the roads either on foot or on a bicycle you take a look at how visible you are to other road users. Make sure you are wearing high visibility clothing that is clean and the reflective strips in good order. If you wear a back pack, put your reflective jacket over the top, rather than under it. Check the lights on you bicycle to make sure they are in good working order and bright/large enough to be seen. Bear in mind that any vehicles approaching you from behind may not be able to see one small rear light when there is a larger vehicle approaching them from the front with bigger, brighter lights. If you are walking or jogging on the road and you are aware of vehicles approaching in both directions then consider moving on to the verge if there is one.


Vehicle drivers, please be aware that on the darker roads you may encounter walkers, cyclist or joggers and give them plenty of room when overtaking. If a vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction then slow down and wait for it to pass you before attempting to overtake, do not take the chance that you can pass safely before the other vehicle gets to you. If you become aware that you cannot see due to oncoming lights, then slow down and take the necessary precautions.


If as a car driver you find that you become involved in an incident then please stop at the scene. Ascertain if there are any injuries that require medical attention and if necessary, call an ambulance and report the incident to the police straight away.
