Research
Campden Surgery is a ‘Research Ready Accredited Practice’ and member of the Primary Care Research Network. This means we work to find ways of improving the care we provide and help to inform future developments in health care. The practice takes part in a wide range of research studies and you may be invited to participate, either by a letter through the post or during an appointment at the surgery. Our Research Nurse Lara Peniket can be contacted through the surgery or on 07582 443 538.
Current Studies we are participating in:
FAST: Looks at whether increasing certain inhalers can reduce worsening of Asthma symptoms that would usually require steroids.
TASMINH4 : A blood pressure study looking at whether home monitoring gives better blood pressure control.
CANDID: This study is aiming to find out which symptoms are most useful in helping doctors detect cancer at an early stage.
BARACK-D: This study is aiming to find out whether a tablet commonly used to treat raised blood pressure can be beneficial for people with chronic kidney disease by reducing the onset of cardiovascular disease.
Upcoming Studies:
PANDA: This study looks at whether antidepressants in mild depression help.
CEDAR: Using an eardrop solution for reducing antibiotic consumption and treating ear pain in children aged 6m to <10 years presenting to the GP with an ear infection.
Past Studies:
CHICO: A study to explore ways to improve care for children with a cough, both in GP surgeries and at home.
PSM- COPD: A study designed to investigate methods of supporting people with Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease (COPD)
EXPERT: A study that looked at testing out a new website designed to provide support for unpaid carers of people with multiple sclerosis (MS).
3C: A study looking at which people who go to see their doctor or nurse with a cough might go on to develop a chest infection (pneumonia).
HEAT (Helicobacter Eradication Aspirin Trial): a study looking at whether treating a type of stomach infection called ‘Helicobacter’ in people who take aspirin might reduce their risk of developing stomach ulcers.
STILTS 2 : a study examining common and rare genetic variants associated with thinness.
BWeL (Brief Interventions for Weight Loss: a study aiming to find out whether GPs can help people lose weight by providing them with brief support or advice about this during their appointment.
